For Mercedes, WorkFaith "transform[ed] sadness into hope, happiness, and joy." When Mercedes moved to the U.S. from Venezuela, she hoped to build a better life and provide for her family back home. Because of her limited proficiency in English, she was told she would never be a lawyer again. Discouraged, Mercedes attended WorkFaith’s JSA. There she learned soft skills and interview techniques and gained a mentor in her instructor. Mercedes now works in a law office as a secretary! She can now afford a home, transportation, and provide for her family.

Horace credits WorkFaith with getting him job-ready! In a few years, Horace experienced a complete turnaround: from deep suffering to a series of promotions and a degree in accounting! Having struggled with homelessness and drug abuse in the past, Horace needed career guidance. Through WorkFaith's virtual classes, Horace learned how to make himself more competitive in the job market. Utilizing our network and referral process, he got a job at Open Door Mission that, at the same time, allowed him to pursue a degree!

After years of feeling depressed, Roberto now feels "alive again." Roberto had been pushed out of his job as a banking professional in El Salvador and could no longer afford to live. When Roberto moved to the U.S. he struggled in his job search, finding that most jobs required English speakers. Feeling overwhelmed and hopelessness, Roberto enrolled in our Spanish JSA, where he learned how to format his resume and gained the community and confidence he needed. He is now employed at WorkFaith partner organization Star of Hope!
